How much data do I need?

Start with your own phone. Its settings show how much mobile data you used last month, and which apps used it. Then allow for how you plan to use your phone on the trip.

Maps and navigation (for example Google Maps)about 6 to 12 MB an hour
Social media (for example Facebook)about 60 to 120 MB an hour, more with videos
Video calls (for example WhatsApp), depending on app and qualityabout 90 MB to 1.4 GB an hour

Check the days too: a 7-day plan does not cover a 14-day trip, even with enough data.

Download maps, films and app updates on Wi-Fi before you go. Using your phone as a hotspot counts towards your data.

No. The Europe travel eSIM is data only and does not include a phone number. To stay reachable, use calling and messaging apps such as WhatsApp over its data.

How long is the Europe eSIM valid?

The Europe eSIM lasts for the number of days shown in the plan you choose, counted from when the data plan starts. Until it has connected to a network for the first time, it stays valid for 1 to 2 years, so you can buy it well ahead of your trip.

Which network does the eSIM for Europe use?

The eSIM for Europe is not tied to one carrier. It connects automatically to the strongest available partner network once data roaming is switched on. If it does not connect, search manually: on Android go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators and turn off Select Automatically; on iPhone go to Settings > Mobile Data > Network Selection and turn off Automatic.

How do I install the eSIM for Europe?

You install the eSIM for Europe by scanning its QR code. Go to Settings > Mobile Data (or Connections) > Add eSIM > Scan QR Code > Next, then wait until the eSIM has installed. If installation fails, take out the physical SIM card that is in your phone and try again. Then switch on data roaming: on Android under Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks, on iPhone under Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options.

How do I activate my Europe travel eSIM?

Use the link in your order email, or our activation page, to book your activation: enter your details and choose your activation date.
